Geoscience and Crime

Debra gave us a graphic account of the forensic science used to place a suspect at the scene of a crime. It was quite amazing just what can be found out from very small samples of 'soil' collected from suspect's clothing.

She had an example of different layers found in a suspect's turn-ups. These layers could be matched to a journey he had walked from the scene of the crime to his home!

Debra also explained that care had to be taken with these small samples. The testing has to be planned in detail so that tests where the sample can be recovered for future testing are done first.

Altogether a most enjoyable evening, and a cautionary note that wherever you go you can be tracked.
